Since Watergate, we've seen conservatives go after Democratic administrations trying furiously to hang a like scandal on president Bill Clinton with everything from travel-gate to White Water-gate to Vince Foster-Gate to Lewinsky-Gate to you-name-it, all without success because their accusations were baseless. Without merit.
Now comes the Jihad against president Obama. This isn't the first attempt by conservatives to pin something on Barack Obama, but it is the first time a Republ;ican senator has so quickly tried to plaster the word "Watergate" on president Obama. Of course this latest attempt failed out of the gate (no pun intended) because there's no issue to cover up in the first place.
The question at this point becomes: Has the Republican party gone after Democrat presidents so often and with so little evidence, that even if they were to uncover real evidence of a scandal, do they have so little credibility that their charges would be discounted as just another baseless conservative witch hunt? "Fast and Furious" anyone?
I think so. Imagine if six months from now, John McCain holds a press conference to level charges of some kind of scandal in the Obama administration. The first reaction from the nation would be "Again??" Doesn't McCain and his campaign losing conservatives ever give up?
Like the boy who cried wolf, these conservative witch hunts have only served to make conservatives look petty and dishonest, due to the sheer number of attacks made, and by associating themselves with the likes of Donald Trump. Don't believe me? Ask a guy named Mitt Romney.
